| Our Zen ceramic Tubs and
Basins are hand crafted
at Shigaraki region
of Japan, near Kyoto. Shigaraki dates to the medieval
period and is one of the six ancient kilns of Japan. |
|
During the Muromachi period (1333-1573), Sado, "way
of tea" became increasingly popular. The simple
beauty of Shigaraki pottery was ideal for use in the
tea ceremony which often associated with Zen Buddhism.
It represents the Japanese aesthetic concepts of wabi
and sabi, the fulfillment of a sensibility beyond the
incompleteness of material things. The tea masters of
the succeeding centuries favor this natural type of
pottery for its Zen-like simplicity and rusticity, making
Shigaraki ware one of Japan's most revered ceramic styles. |
